RESEARCH

In addition to performing, Mike works as a research fellow in Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where he uses his 20+ years of experience as a professional jazz musician to bring new insights to academic approaches to jazz and improvised music.

HIs most recent research project was Silent Form . This multi-disciplinary investigation into Ornette Coleman's early 1960s recordings has a number of different facets, including a collaborative ensemble formed of members of Stavanger's Kitchen Orchestra (more here), and a website and blog that host transcriptions and articles about Coleman's music (here).
